Video: Should F1 teams pay for rivals’ damage?

Formula 1 teams have a new problem in 2021: any expensive damage they pick up through crashes eats into the spending limits set by the cost cap.

That’s led to calls from Ferrari and Red Bull that the teams of the drivers responsible for accidents should pay for rivals’ damage, or damage that isn’t the fault of the driver in question shouldn’t come out of the capped budgets.

In this video Scott Mitchell explores whether those theories are workable, and looks into suggestions that drivers shouldn’t have to serve grid penalties if crash damage takes them over their allocation of engine components during a season.
