Hadjar reportedly in doubt for Dutch GP, Lawson on standby
Isack Hadjar will reportedly miss Formula 1’s Dutch Grand Prix due to injury, meaning Liam Lawson could make a surprise return to Red Bull Racing this weekend.
According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Hadjar has picked up a wrist injury over F1’s summer break, which has put his participation at Zandvoort into major doubt. The report suggests Hadjar being sidelined is the most likely outcome but that a final decision has not yet been made.
If Hadjar is unable to participate, Racing Bulls driver Lawson would make an unlikely return to Red Bull Racing, where he lasted just two races before being demoted at the start of 2025. Ironically Lawson's F1 racing career began with a Dutch GP injury call-up three years ago, when then AlphaTauri driver Daniel Ricciardo broke his hand in a practice crash.
The shuffle would also hand Yuki Tsunoda an F1 return, as he’d take Lawson’s place at Racing Bulls, a team he made 89 starts for before his own shortlived promotion to Red Bull Racing last year, in place of Lawson.
Tsunoda is currently serving as the team’s reserve driver, having been so far unable to secure a F1 race seat since losing his Red Bull Racing drive at the end of last year. He has been linked this week to an IndyCar future in place of Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist, as Rosenqvist returns to McLaren’s IndyCar team for 2027.
De Telegraaf reports that Hadjar's wrist injury was picked up during a gym session.
Zandvoort was the scene of Hadjar’s first F1 podium last year, and he’d been putting together a solid 2026 season, with every indication being that he’d be retained in Red Bull's main team for 2027.
If he misses Zandvoort, Hadjar would have two weeks to recover before the next race at Monza.
