Senior TT moved from Isle of Man finale slot in 2027 changes

The Isle of Man TT has announced schedule changes for 2027 that will concentrate race-week activities around the blue riband Senior TT event, partly as a response to weather disruptions in recent years.

The new schedule also sees one race dropped from the calendar, with the Superstock class reduced to just a single race - something that happened in 2026 anyway when the second race was scrapped due to the inclement weather that disrupted most of race week after glorious sunshine during practice week.

The Superbike TT, traditionally the opening race of the event, will reclaim that slot for 2027 after swapping with the first Supersport race for 2026, with the four-lap Supersport TT now taking its place on Sunday with its shorter, closed-roads window thanks to the island's church services.

Monday will be a contingency day, ahead of the Superstock TT on Tuesday and the return of the sidecar class following its 2026 suspension on safety grounds, with the second Supersport TT and the newly revamped Sportbike TT class going on Wednesday.

Thursday will be another rest day, with only the Senior TT scheduled for Friday (traditionally a public holiday on the Isle of Man). This year's race was rescheduled for Saturday and was due to be shortened to four laps, but could not be completed due to rain and windy conditions - meaning the result was taken from the single lap of racing completed before a red flag the previous evening.

Racing will then conclude on Saturday with another sidecar race and the second Sportbike race.

"The schedule introduced in 2023 achieved a number of important objectives for the TT," said TT boss Paul Phillips. "It created stronger opening and closing weekends, provided more racing across the week and gave visitors much greater choice around how and when they came to the Island.

"Across the four TT events in which it has operated, the schedule has helped us attract more fans and deliver greater economic benefit to the island. Those gains remain central to the 2027 programme, but four years of experience have also provided valuable evidence about where the schedule can now be refined.

"For 2027, we believe the right balance is nine substantial and clearly defined races. Moving from two Superstock races to one allows us to give the remaining Superstock race and both Sportbike races greater substance, create more recovery time within the programme and provide better protection around the Superbike and Senior TTs.

"This is an evolution rather than a return to the programme that existed before 2023. It retains the stronger two-weekend structure while giving each race day a clear purpose. Superbike provides an immediate headline race on the opening Saturday, while placing the 100th Senior on Friday allows us to build the day around that historic occasion and retain Saturday as a genuine contingency opportunity.

"We also want the 100th Senior to be about much more than the race itself. It gives us an opportunity to celebrate the riders, motorcycles and extraordinary performances that have made it the most important race at the TT."
