Two-time IndyCar champion Will Power will join the Andretti team in 2026 following his exit from Penske and Colton Herta's switch to a Formula 1 test driver role with Cadillac.
Penske announced Power's departure after 17 years as part of its IndyCar line-up on Tuesday, with both the team and Power himself saying the decision was of his making.

That was followed a little more than 24 hours later by Cadillac announcing Herta in a test role with its new F1 team for 2026 - a move that is now near-certain to include a Formula 2 drive next season - and by Andretti subsequently acknowledging Herta's exit from its IndyCar squad.
Andretti later announced Power as having joined its three-car IndyCar line-up, alongside Kyle Kirkwood and Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson.
The team originally did not disclosed how long Power, the 2014 and 2022 champion, had joined for; its press release made reference to Power's tenure "starting in 2026", which will officially be in January.
But Dan Towriss of TWG Motorsports, which owns and runs Andretti's IndyCar team and is also behind the Cadillac F1 entry, said on the Ask Off Track podcast later on Wednesday that Power's deal was a multi-year one.
"We couldn't think of a better driver than Will Power to fill Colton's shoes here at Andretti and take the wheel of the #26 Honda," said Andretti Global president Jill Gregory, who said of Herta that "we're incredibly proud of him and wish him the best in his new F1 journey".
"Will is a fierce competitor whose record speaks for itself. Additionally, he’s a great personality and we feel he’ll be a strong fit for the team culturally as well," Gregory added.
"I'm really looking forward to meeting all the Andretti team and getting to work in 2026," said Power. "They have some very smart people, and I know it will be enjoyable to get to winning.
"I have tremendous respect for Kyle [Kirkwood] and Marcus [Ericsson]. I’ve had some great battles racing against them, and I think we’re going to make a great combination as team-mates.
"This is a whole new chapter for me. I have to say that sometimes a change of scenery and a fresh start is very energising. I can't wait."

Power's place at Penske will be taken by David Malukas, though an announcement has not yet been made.
As well as changing teams, Power will also be switching from Chevrolet power to an Andretti team that uses Honda engines.
