until Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League

McLaren Shadow and Romain Grosjean’s R8G Esports teams will join the V10 R-League for its second season, making it a 10-team series.

Whilst neither team has revealed its full driver line-up, McLaren Shadow’s team will be led by F1 Esports driver and World’s Fastest Gamer winner James Baldwin.

For its second season the series will still be run on Assetto Corsa and continue to use the purpose-built open-wheel V10-powered car designed specifically for the competition.

Team Redline won last year’s running of the V10 R-League after a final and deciding match between them and Williams Esports.

All of the teams that took part in the first season will return, albeit with Racing Point rebranded to the Aston Martin Cognizant Esports Team.

This season the format has been altered to accommodate the extra teams, with the 10 teams split up into two leagues of five teams.

Each team will still compete against the other teams in their league in a series of head-to-head matches, but the top three teams from both leagues will then progress to the playoffs, with the top team in each division going straight to the semi-final stage.

Each match will be split into a home and an away leg, with both teams getting to nominate a home circuit for the match, which will host a relay race and a team race.

That means a match will now be comprised of four events, as opposed to three (at a single circuit instead of two circuits) last season.

Tracks will be picked from a pool each week and each team will be able to veto a track, adding a layer of strategy that wasn’t present in the first season.

There was a £100,000 prize pool for the first season but as of yet no prize pool has been announced for the second season.

The second season will begin in April, with BT Sport continuing to broadcast the event in the UK and ESPN airing coverage in the US.
