Podcast: Why the FIA and F1 are fighting over new teams

Why are the FIA and Formula 1 seemingly at war over the prospect of new teams? That’s a question we answer in the latest edition of The Race F1 podcast.

Scott Mitchell-Malm and Mark Hughes join Edd Straw to explain what FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem called the “adverse reaction” to news of the Andretti/Cadillac F1 entry bid.

We look at the political battle that is playing out and delve into who really has the final say on whether or not a new team can come into grand prix racing.

There’s also a discussion of the doubts some teams have about the Andretti bid and the suggestion that the $200million anti-dilution fee new teams are required to pay is not big enough.

How this plays into the negotiations on the 2026 Concorde Agreement and whether Andretti is taking the right approach are also topics touched upon.
