McLaren reveals special livery to mark 1000 F1 races

McLaren has revealed the special livery it will use to celebrate its 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix across Monaco and Barcelona.

Lando Norris and team-mate Oscar Piastri will race in Monaco and Barcelona with a metallic papaya and 'anthracite' livery on the McLaren MCL40.

The team is celebrating 1000 grands prix in F1, with Monaco also the scene of its first grand prix back in 1966, with founder Bruce McLaren at the wheel of the M2B.

The M2B will line up alongside the current MCL40 during a special commemoration on the grid in Monaco on Thursday.

Norris, Piastri, team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown will be joined for the celebration by multiple grand prix winners from McLaren's history, as well as F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

McLaren's 1000th grand prix start has been something of a moving target. It was originally supposed to be the Miami Grand Prix, before the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian rounds shuffled it back to Monaco.

But the subsequent failure to start either car in China means this year's Monaco GP will actually be McLaren's 999th start, with the Barcelona round, one week later, marking the team's 1000th.

Both drivers will wear special overalls throughout both weekends in line with the special livery.

McLaren has won 203 grands prix en route to 13 drivers' championships and 10 constructors' titles, and will become only the second team (after Ferrari) to reach this milestone.
