Formula 1’s podium finishers in the British Grand Prix will receive a world first on Sunday – with their trophies made entirely from Lego bricks.
Off the back of F1’s sponsorship partnership with Lego that started this year, and to celebrate F1’s 75th anniversary in 2025, the Danish toy brick company has worked on three unique drivers’ trophies as well as one for the winning constructor for the Silverstone F1 race.
They have been inspired by the design of the current RAC Golden trophy, the one usually handed out to the winner of the British GP, with all the components and detailing coming from genuine Lego parts that can be purchased in the shops.
The gold winners’ trophy is 59cm tall, weighs just more than 2kg and is made up of 2717 bricks. The second and third places trophies feature red and blue detailing, with the winning team trophy being dark blue and gold coloured.
Seven builders were drafted in to make the trophies, which were designed by Lego designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson. They took around 210 hours in total to be created.
Johnson explained that one of the key challenges was to ensure the trophies were strong enough to withstand the impact of any exuberant post-race celebrations.
“We’ve glued them together so we don't have a disaster with maybe some champagne slammed down and then them falling on the ground,” he said.
“We’ve done our due diligence to make sure that they don’t fall apart, and they are very strong.”
Silverstone CEO Stuart Pringle reckoned doing something different with the Lego trophies was fitting for F1's 75th anniversary.
He said: “Since hosting the first round of the Formula 1 world championship at Silverstone 75 years ago, we have had some iconic podium celebrations, and I could not think of a better way to make 2025 unique.
“I am sure the three drivers on the Silverstone podium will be proudly showing off their fantastic Lego trophies for many years to come."
