'I let McLaren down' - Norris now accepts blame for Piastri clash

Lando Norris has now accepted blame for clashing with McLaren Formula 1 team-mate Oscar Piastri in the Singapore sprint race, sharing his revised stance after the grand prix.

Norris and Piastri clashed on the final lap of the sprint while fighting for fourth and fifth place, with Norris going down the inside of Piastri at Turn 5 and making contact.

That left the team with just one point from the race - Norris's for eighth place - and drew ire from team principal Andrea Stella, who called the clash “unacceptable”.

The stewards ruled neither driver was predominantly to blame for the clash, and neither took responsibility for causing it when speaking to the media on Saturday, with Norris telling Viaplay: “It was a big gap so I went for it, I have the right to do that.”

The start of that Viaplay interview went viral on social media, with Norris asking the journalist: “What's the title of the race? Sprint ... What's after sprint?"

When the journalist replied, “race”, Norris replied "Wow, good job. Yeah, it's race!"

Stella promised a full review with the two drivers as “it is serious because the damage for the team is material”.

And on Sunday, having finished fourth in the grand prix, Norris presented a revised stance.

“I can't attempt what I did. I should never have attempted it in the first place, even if the move was on,” Norris said.

“I’ve simply got to think more of the team that I represent rather than myself. It was a mistake on my part and I let down the team.

“So I first of all apologise to all of them. I owe them all an apology, and I'll do better next time.”
