Marquez undergoes double surgery on foot and shoulder
Reigning MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has undergone two separate surgeries in Madrid after his withdrawal from the French Grand Prix.
Marquez went under the knife at his favoured place of treatment, the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, after exiting the Le Mans weekend on Saturday.
The seven-time champion had crashed from seventh on the penultimate lap of the sprint race, breaking the fifth metatarsal of his right foot.
That injury has been "stabilised" by surgeons in Madrid, while a brought-forward surgical intervention on his shoulder was also carried out.
Marquez had planned to have the procedure done after next weekend's Catalan Grand Prix.
It involved the removal of "two screws and a bone fragment from a previous Latarjet (December 2019) surgery that has shifted, compressing the radial nerve".
The Latarjet (a way of stabilising the shoulder) procedure had been carried out during his time at Honda before his major arm injury, when he was suffering recurring shoulder dislocations.
Ducati has announced no new timeline for Marquez's return, simply reaffirming that he will not ride in Barcelona.
"He will remain in the hospital overnight and he will be back home tomorrow for beginning the rehabilitation," Ducati said.
"The progress over the upcoming weeks will determine the time for his return to competitions."
The Mugello weekend, which would be the next possible target, begins on May 29.
Marquez is 71 and 70 points off Aprilia's points-heading factory riders Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin respectively.
