F2 reveals revised car to reflect F1 2026 changes
Formula 2 has revealed a heavily modified car for the coming seasons at the Italian Grand Prix, bringing it closer to the look of Formula 1's current machine.
The revised car, which will retain the existing chassis, was revealed in the F1 paddock at Monza on Saturday and will be used in F1's primary feeder series from 2027 to 2029.
F2 last introduced a new car in 2024 to more closely mirror the look of F1's ground-effect-era cars used from 2022-25.
This new 2027 car better reflects the visual direction of F1's new 2026 cars but without being a complete overhaul, keeping costs lower.
Its aero package is also designed to allow cars to follow each other more closely.
The new car will be powered by the same 3.4-litre turbocharged V6 Mecachrome engine used in the 2024-26 generation.
And it will run on 18-inch wheelrims once more, having pioneered them on its 2020 car, two years before F1 adopted them.
The car will run on sustainable fuel, supplied by Aramco, partner of Aston Martin's F1 team.
For the first time, the car will feature an on-board starter, meaning stalled cars are less likely to be stranded.
F2 said this had been accomplished through the development of "an evolution of the current gearbox" from supplier Hewland.
It should be the car used by Lando Norris's brand-new LN4 Fusion team next year, led by former Prema leader Rene Rosin.
The team is yet to be officially granted an entry, but this is believed to be a formality.
