Cassidy ends win drought in wet Shanghai race

In the week it emerged Nick Cassidy is splitting with the Jaguar Formula E team, he took advantage of miserable weather at Shanghai to end his win drought and show what he can do on a level playing field.

With Jaguar off the pace for most of the 2024-25 season so far, Cassidy went into Sunday's race only 13th in the championship, having fought for the title last season, and having not won since Berlin a year ago.

But he was unstoppable on a sodden day in China, in which practice and qualifying were both delayed then truncated - with qualifying just run as two group sessions and no duels - and the race was repeatedly delayed and then began with a long safety car stint.

Cassidy started from pole and simply stormed away, building a lead of over 10 seconds while using less energy than everyone behind him.

Porsche made up for its awful first race by finishing second and third with Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa, in a processional race with little variation in attack mode strategies and entertainment limited to plentiful midfield spins.

Championship leader Oliver Rowland started only 17th and finished 13th, but remains 68 points clear of nearest rival Wehrlein in the standings.
