Stray wing mirror one of two quick-fire red flags in Bahrain test

Valtteri Bottas's Cadillac losing a wing mirror on track and Pierre Gasly's Alpine stopping on track triggered two red flags in quick succession on the second day of Formula 1 2026’s first Bahrain test.

Bottas's team-mate Sergio Perez caused the first red flag of the day inside the first hour when he stopped on the back straight out of Turn 10. His car was recovered to the pits and he returned to the track later to clock 42 laps overall.

He handed the Cadillac over to Bottas for the second part of the day, and Bottas had completed 18 laps across various stints before his mirror dropped onto the Sakhir circuit.

This resulted in the third red flag of the day being shown so the debris could be cleared from the track, with the session restarted shortly after, only for it to be halted again.

Gasly's Alpine ground to a halt on the run to Turn 1, and he parked it in an escape road between the end of the pitlane and the first corner.

The second red flag of the day, just before lunch, was a planned one to check the FIA's procedures.

Charles Leclerc's Ferrari led the times heading into the final two hours of the day, ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris and George Russell's Mercedes.

Gasly and Ollie Bearman's Haas rounded out the top five.
