F1 legends launch new podcast with The Race

2 min read

Formula 1's 1996 world champion Damon Hill and three-time race winner Johnny Herbert are reuniting to launch a brand new podcast in conjunction with The Race.

Stay on Track With Damon Hill & Johnny Herbert will launch at the end of October, just as the 2025 Formula 1 heads into its final title-deciding phase.

The podcast will be available in both audio and video format, and is the latest from a freshly-agreed multi-year agreement between The Race and The Athletic.

The Race and The Athletic have collaborated since 2022 to publish an extensive portfolio of F1, MotoGP and other motorsport shows for a hyper-engaged fanbase, headlined by The Race F1 Podcast.

Across The Race’s podcast portfolio, the network reaches a monthly audio and video audience well into seven figures.

Hill and Herbert will record a podcast monthly, and provide irreverent analysis of the latest grands prix and news, as well as sharing anecdotes from their past exploits as F1 drivers and commentators.

Hill will also front a separate podcast alongside pre-eminent F1 writer Mark Hughes. The Undercut with Damon Hill & Mark Hughes will also be released in a monthly sequence, starting in mid-November, and will provide in-depth analysis of F1 past and present.

“I'm very excited that I will be working with The Race Media on not one, but two, new and very different F1 Podcasts," Hill said.

"It will be great to be re-united with my partner in chaos, the inimitable Johnny Herbert, to give that 'been there, done that' take on life in F1.

"Whilst with Mark I have one of the most insightful and experienced F1 journalists onboard to get to the heart of the key themes of our beloved (and sometimes, not so beloved!) sport. I can't wait to crack on!”

Herbert, a Le Mans 24 Hours victor in 1991, added: “Damon and I came through the ranks together as drivers, and I’ve always enjoyed his company - he’s a fascinating character.

"We are chalk and cheese in many ways, but we bring out the best in one another and, as pundits, we share a similar mentality: to tell the truth and call things as we see them. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun!”

The audio versions of both Stay on Track and The Undercut will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and all other podcast apps, while the video versions will be available on YouTube on The Race and The Race Podcasts channels.

These two high-profile podcasts join a portfolio of eight other motorsport podcasts that have been created within the partnership between The Athletic and The Race.

“The Race and The Athletic share a common philosophy: to produce sports content that is class-leading in both entertainment and expertise," said CEO and Co-Founder of The Race Andrew van de Burgt.

"So it was natural for the relationship to enter a new multi-year chapter and these two new podcasts with an F1 world champion are indicative of our shared ambitions.”

Jesse Burton, The Athletic’s Global Head of Series & Specials, added: “We’re so pleased to expand our long-running relationship with The Race and to welcome Damon and Johnny to our network.

"It’s an important step forward for our motorsports coverage and great news for F1 fans around the world.”
