Provisional F1 2025 British Grand Prix starting grid after two penalties

1 min read

Defending Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen will start the 2025 British Grand Prix from pole position.

Verstappen topped an ultra-tight final part of qualifying, beating Oscar Piastri to pole with the final lap in Q3 as less than quarter of a second covered the top six.

Behind them, Kimi Antonelli qualified seventh for Mercedes but has a three-place grid penalty carried over from the Austrian GP for taking out Verstappen at the start.

And eighth-place qualifier Ollie Bearman was best of the rest for Haas, but he has a 10-place grid penalty for a significant red flag infringement in final practice.

So Q3 duo Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly plus Williams driver Carlos Sainz are the biggest beneficiaries of those penalties as they both move up two places in the starting order to seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

Antonelli is due to line up 10th with Bearman down in 18th.
