Davey Todd and Michael Dunlop shared superbike honours on the final day of the 2025 North West 200, taking one race win apiece.
Todd doubled up in the superstock class and Richard Cooper took two wins in the supersport and supertwins class on an eventful day at the Triangle circuit.
It was Dunlop who emerged victorious in the opening superbike race of the day amid controversial circumstances, charging through the field after losing time early on when he and Isle of Man TT rival Peter Hickman ran on at the Mather’s Cross chicane.
Dunlop looked set for victory in that opener as he launched a phenomenal charge through the field to hunt down leader Todd. But Dunlop was temporarily handed a 10-second penalty for not stopping as he rejoined from his chicane shortcut.
That was later rescinded, a move that caused third-placed finisher Hickman to refuse to join Dunlop and Todd on the podium.
It looked like the second superbike race would be similar with Dunlop once again making a late charge through to the lead - but this time it ended in disappointment when his BMW expired shortly after he took the lead from Todd on the final lap.
Instead Todd and Dean Harrison looked set for a last-lap battle until a red flag came out to bring the day’s racing to a premature end, allowing Todd to secure victory.
Todd had already stood on the top step of the podium with a comfortable victory in the superstock class. Once again he was joined on the podium by Honda Racing’s Harrison and by his 8Ten Racing team-mate Hickman. The third place was one of the few highlights in a rather quiet day of action from the Isle of Man TT lap record holder.
In the supersport class, Todd, Dunlop, and Harrison appeared favourites to decide the honours but it was Todd’s turn to have machine problems, retiring out of the battle for the lead and leaving Richard Cooper to launch himself into contention.
With the battle going right down to the wire at the penultimate corner on the final lap, Cooper and Harrison tangled with each other and were forced to take a grasstracking shortcut. Thankfully staying on their bikes, they also held on to first and second ahead of the chasing Dunlop.
Cooper had been on the top step of the podium earlier in the day in the opening supertwin race, winning a close-fought battle against local Adam McLean. MotoGP veteran Jeremy McWilliams joined them on the podium some eight seconds down.
In the second supertwin outing, it all went wrong on the penultimate lap when Cooper and McLean tangled and went down together on the Coast Road.
With Cooper and McLean out of the running - and McWilliams forced to sit out the race following a supersport race crash - it all left another local racer, Paul Jordan, to come through to take an emotional first North West 200 victory ahead of Micko Sweeney and Barry Furber.
