Trackhouse Racing’s Ai Ogura will miss the remainder of this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone after suffering a possible tibia fracture in a practice crash.
Following a change to the diagnosis of the injuries he sustained in Friday morning’s practice incident, he will now fly directly back to Barcelona for further checks.
Ogura was initially declared fit following the Friday morning crash, but was unable to complete more than a single lap in the afternoon’s second session before being forced to park the Trackhouse Aprilia.
“This morning I felt quite OK with the bike, and I wasn’t riding so fast,” he explained at the end of the day. “In the second run, I was on my way to improve and it was the wrong timing, the wrong amount of push.
“I crashed, and after that I felt not really well with my right knee. We decided to skip the session in the afternoon, and hopefully overnight my knee will get better to be fit for tomorrow.”

However, further examination on Saturday morning has revealed a possible fracture high on the bone of his right leg, something that has ruled him out of the remainder of the weekend - and potentially even the next round of the championship in Aragon, according to team boss Davide Brivio.
“We waited today to see if his situation could improve,” he said, “but he woke up this morning getting worse and worse. So we went back to the medical centre for further investigation, and there is something on his right knee.
“Something to the ligament a little bit. Anyway, they decided it's better to have an MRI, to go deeper into the investigation. He will go back to Barcelona, probably on Monday morning he will go back to Dr. [Angel] Charte and make further investigation and they'll decide what to do.”
The situation for Aprilia could well be complicated should they need a replacement rider for Aragon, though.
Current test rider and default stand-in Lorenzo Savadori, who last year replaced both Raul Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira at Trackhouse, remains on factory team duty in place of injured world champion Jorge Martin, who isn’t expected to make a MotoGP return until July following the chest injuries he sustained in Qatar.
That could potentially lead Trackhouse to exploring a wildcard option for the race, maybe even with an American racer - with World Superbike podium finisher Garrett Gerloff and former Moto2 rider and five-time MotoAmerica champion Cameron Beaubier possible contenders should the US team opt for homegrown talent.
