Morbidelli injured in bizarre crash on grid

1 min read

Franco Morbidelli will miss the post-season MotoGP test due to the injury he sustained in a bizarre pre-race accident at the Valencia Grand Prix finale.

As the field came onto the grid, Morbidelli clattered into old arch-rival Aleix Espargaro's Honda just as Espargaro was doing a stoppie.

Morbidelli managed to wheel his damaged VR46 Ducati back into pitlane and took the start from there but pulled out of the race almost immediately and went for medical checks.

He was diagnosed with a fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand, which will rule him out of the important Tuesday test at which riders get their first proper taste of next year’s bikes.

Morbidelli’s injury also means he will not be carrying out his post-race media commitments to give his side of the incident tonight.
