Pramac Yamaha MotoGP rider Jack Miller was quickest in opening practice to kick off the final round of the 2025 season at Valencia.

In what is widely expected to be the inline-four-engined Yamaha M1's last hurrah, Miller made for an encouraging start with a 1m30.382s that left him over three tenths clear - though he was aided by the use of fresh tyres, front and rear.

Also benefitting from fresh rubber on the rear were Ai Ogura in second place for Trackhouse Aprilia, Honda wildcard Aleix Espargaro in third, and Ogura's team-mate Raul Fernandez in fourth.

Season runner-up Alex Marquez was the leader for much of the session, but was usurped by the fresh-tyre runners - and by Franco Morbidelli, who jumped ahead of Marquez on a used medium in the final minutes to place fourth.

Though it benefitted from a new-tyre boost, it was an encouraging session for the latest version of Yamaha's V4 prototype - as tester Augusto Fernandez placed 10th and would've been second had his best lap not been struck off for yellow flags.

There were crashes for Brad Binder and Fermin Aldeguer in what was otherwise a relatively uneventful session, which marked the MotoGP returns of Maverick Vinales (19th) and Jorge Martin (24th).

But neither Vinales nor Martin used fresh rubber in the closing stages to improve their positions - nor did Pecco Bagnaia, whose 21st place may nonetheless feel like a less-than-optimal start.

Martin's return session also featured a big practice start scare, as he popped a big wheelie off the line and moved uncomfortably close to the pitwall after landing the front tyre back on the ground.
