KTM rider Pedro Acosta was fastest at the end of Friday running at the Valencia MotoGP 2025 season finale.
MotoGP didn't race in Valencia last year due to flooding, but the KTMs were very potent there in 2023 - and Acosta, still chasing his first MotoGP win, looked the strongest rider through the hour-long session, setting the pace in both the initial running and the late-session time attacks.
He didn't improve on his final run but had still done enough to lead the way by 0.053s over Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi.
Franco Morbidelli (VR46) and Alex Marquez (Gresini) was next up on the Ducatis, with their respective team-mates - Fabio Di Giannantonio and Fermin Aldeguer - also slotting into the top eight and thus booking Q1 spots for Saturday.
Aldeguer's fellow rookie Ai Ogura was a strong fifth for Trackhouse, with Pramac's Jack Miller 0.001s behind him as the lead Yamaha.
Joan Mir (Honda) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) grabbed the final available Q2 spots, the top 10 separated by 0.433s.
Advancing to Q2: Acosta, Bezzecchi, Morbidelli, Marquez, Ogura, Miller, Di Giannantonio, Aldeguer, Mir, Quartararo
Will contest Q1: Binder, R Fernandez, Espargaro, Bagnaia, Zarco, Marini, Rins, Vinales, Bastianini, A Fernandez, Oliveira, Martin, Chantra, Bulega
That meant there was no place in the top 10 for Ducati works rider Pecco Bagnaia, who was actually only 14th in the end, one place and 0.001s behind Honda tester Aleix Espargaro - who was second-fastest of the Honda riders.
Of the injury returnees, Maverick Vinales was 18th (narrowly faster than Tech3 team-mate Enea Bastianini), while Jorge Martin was 22nd but did not go for a final time attack, choosing to prioritise his condition.
The V4 Yamaha continued to perform solidly, a second off the pace - and seven tenths off the lead inline-four Yamaha - in tester Augusto Fernandez's hands.
