Ferrari F1 junior gets Formula E chance

Ferrari Academy driver and Formula 2 racer Dino Beganovic will join Mahindra for the Formula E rookie test at Berlin Tempelhof later this month, fresh from his latest Ferrari Formula 1 appearance in Austrian Grand Prix practice last weekend.

Beganovic will be one of the higher-profile names on the 22 driver entry list for the test - in which drivers with little or no Formula E experience sample the Gen3 Evo cars across a total of six available hours of running.

Swedish/Bosnian 21-year-old Beganovic is currently competing in his first full-season F2 campaign for Hitech TGR and has achieved podium finishes in Bahrain and Imola. He will join fellow F2 driver Kush Maini at the Mahindra team.

“It’s a great opportunity to get experience and also contribute to the team’s development,” said Beganovich.

“I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve seen so far, it’s obvious why this is one of the frontrunning teams in the championship.”

Mahindra Racing CEO & team principal Frederic Bertrand added: “When analysing our options for the rookie test in Berlin, Dino quickly emerged as a frontrunner for one of the seats.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to sample what Formula E is all about, and we’re all very excited to work together with him to make the most of it.”

Test list approaches completion

Confirmation that Beganovich will test for Mahindra leaves just a few seats to be confirmed for the rookie test at Tempelhof.

Lola Abt Yamaha has been talking to Williams junior driver Alessandro Giusti about the test, while Maserati MSG is expected to again use Theo Pourchaire - who is a Stellantis junior driver and strongly tipped for a Formula E race seat next season.

F1 veteran Daniil Kvyat may also be recalled by DS Penske for a similar run-out to his Jeddah free practice appearance earlier this year.

Other drivers known to have been talking to teams about the test include Invicta F2 driver Leonardo Fornaroli, MP Motorsport's Richard Verschoor and current F3 drivers Callum Voisin and Santiago Ramos.

Teams have until Thursday evening to nominate their drivers with the FIA.
