Long-time F1 hopeful Drugovich commits to Formula E deal

Aston Martin Formula 1 reserve Felipe Drugovich will race for the Andretti Formula E team in the 2025-26 season.

It will be his first full racing campaign since his 2022 Formula 2 title. He has spent the intervening years on the cusp of F1 hoping for a race deal, but never getting beyond tests - with even chances for substitute race chances with Aston Martin always falling through as regular drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll proved fit to race after all each time a chance seemed imminent.

The already-advanced talks between Drugovich and Andretti stepped up in recent weeks and a deal is recently believed to have been agreed for him to replace Nico Mueller as Jake Dennis’s team-mate.

Since his F2 crown Drugovich has raced only sporadically in the European Le Mans Series, plus at the Le Mans 24 Hours for the Action Express Cadillac team.

The Race has learned that the 25-year-old Brazilian could be officially announced by Andretti next week.

Andretti has been evaluating a choice of replacement for Mueller for several weeks, with Mueller expected to be promoted to the works Porsche team to replace Antonio Felix da Costa. Confirmation of Mueller’s move is expected in late September.

Drugovich made his Formula E debut at Berlin Tempelhof in July when he deputised for Nick de Vries at Mahindra - as de Vries was committed to the clashing Interlagos World Endurance Championship round.

Drugovich scored two points for ninth in race two and is believed to have impressed Mahindra greatly.

Andretti approached Drugovich last month and began talks with him and his representatives.

The deal may include an option for Drugovich to go into the Gen4 era of Formula E, which starts at the end of 2026 and in which Andretti is expected to swap its current Porsche deal for a Nissan tie-up.

Andretti was testing last week with the Porsche Gen3Evo manufacturer car but The Race understands that only Dennis ran at the test, held at the Ales-Cervennes track in France, and that Drugovich did not take part as his negotiations with the team were not yet complete.

Drugovich is likely to run for the first time as an Andretti driver at the pre-season Valencia test in late October prior to the season opener in Sao Paulo in early December.
