Andretti loses first Formula E 1-2 after penalty

Andretti Formula E

Long-time Formula E squad Andretti's first-ever 1-2 finish lasted only a handful of hours, before a penalty for Felipe Drugovich dropped him off the Sanya podium.

The Andretti pair started first and second and finished first and third on the road, albeit with rookie Drugovich immediately promoted to second behind race-winning team-mate Jake Dennis thanks to a penalty for sometime Andretti driver Antonio Felix da Costa (now at Jaguar).

Now Drugovich has copped a five-second penalty of his own, sanctioned for contact with Porsche's title hopeful Pascal Wehrlein - for which the stewards deemed Drugovich "wholly responsible", dropping him just off the podium (onto which Da Costa has been reinstated).

The penalty also grants fellow rookie Pepe Marti second place in the classification, marking his best finish in Formula E so far.

A total of seven time penalties have been assessed in- and post-race, five of them applied to the relevant driver's finishing time.
