Robert Kubica thought he had a shot at the 2008 Formula 1 title after taking his maiden win at the Canadian Grand Prix.
But he has since claimed that BMW had other ideas, instead focusing on development for 2009, when it hoped to take the next step in its climb up the F1 ladder.
