Alex Albon’s Formula 1 career was faltering at Red Bull at the end of 2022 but, five races into 2022, his move from the sidelines to Williams looks like an inspired move for all parties.
There was an element of risk for Williams in signing him as, despite Albon always being highly rated, he struggled when he was team-mate to Max Verstappen.
The hope therefore was that a blend of F1 experience, top-team know-how and determination to reignite his F1 career would coalesce and Albon would finally fulfil his potential. So far in 2022 that’s been the case, and given Williams a talismanic driver to replace the seemingly irreplaceable George Russell.
