The Haas Formula 1 team has had a request to test on Sunday morning rejected but will be allowed to run longer across the three evening sessions this week instead.
Haas missed the first morning of pre-season testing on Wednesday after a problem with the cargo plane originally scheduled to fly to the UK to pick up its cars and other equipment.
The team’s kit only arrived on Tuesday evening its test programme was delayed as a result, which led Haas to request being allowed to run on Sunday instead, citing force majeure.
However, that has been rejected. One of the reasons, according to Haas team boss Guenther Steiner, is that the rules require a test of three days in length.
Haas will be allowed to regain some lost track time though as it has been given permission to run further into the evening across the three days this week.
Steiner said it was down to the team to decide how to utilise that.
“We were denied the testing on Sunday,” said Steiner. “Nine minutes before we went out.
“We can make up four hours of testing but we need to make it up at the end of the day. But we can’t run on Sunday.
“We can run an hour later, four hours – in total, over the three days, four hours in the evening.”
Haas belatedly took to the track on Thursday afternoon with reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi at the wheel.
Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen, the team’s recently confirmed 2022 replacement for Nikita Mazepin, will drive over the remaining two days.
