Sargeant's endurance future taking shape with WEC test

Logan Sargeant will be among the drivers taking part in the World Endurance Championship rookie test in Bahrain.

On Tuesday, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and the FIA revealed the entry list for Sunday's test, held the day after the 2025 season finale, though the line-up remains fluid until the last minute.

The former Williams Formula 1 driver had been off the radar for nearly a year before reigniting his career in the IMSA SportsCar Championship towards the end of the season. Sargeant contested the final two rounds of the 2025 campaign with PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports, driving an ORECA 07 LMP2 at Indianapolis and Petit Le Mans (at Road Atlanta).

For 2026, Sargeant is set to continue in LMP2. According to our information, he will contest the full IMSA season with ERA Motorsport, sharing an ORECA 07 with Naveen Rao.

ERA Motorsport's pedigree is strong: two LMP2 class victories at the Daytona 24 Hours (2022 and 2024), a Sebring 12 Hours win in 2024, an Asian Le Mans Series title in 2021, and two top-three IMSA championship finishes: runner-up in 2022 and third in 2024.

Could Sargeant combine his IMSA campaign with a WEC programme? The possibility can't be ruled out. He's expected to take part in Sunday's rookie test aboard a Proton Competition Ford Mustang LMGT3.

It won't be his first taste of GT machinery as he previously made three starts in the Le Mans Cup, the feeder series to the European Le Mans Series, in 2021.

Given Sargeant's recent LMP2 performances, it wouldn't be surprising if some of the new Hypercar entrants were already keeping tabs on the 24-year-old. Could this test mark the start of a relationship with Ford? It certainly wouldn't be illogical.

Fast, marketable thanks to his F1 background, young yet experienced, American, and eager to reboot his career, Sargeant ticks every box.
