MotoGP Austrian GP: Who made Q2 - and who missed out
Pedro Acosta continued to command KTM and Red Bull's home MotoGP race as he led throughout the Austrian Grand Prix Friday afternoon practice session too.
Gresini Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer ended up his closest challenger, 0.127 seconds adrift.
Ai Ogura marked his return to the field after hand surgery by being top Aprilia in an impressive third place for Trackhouse.
None of the title contenders showed especially standout pace, though Marc Marquez brought his Ducati up to fourth by the end, just ahead of Jorge Martin's Aprilia.
Martin's team-mate Marco Bezzecchi had a particularly muted Friday, bar some errors under braking, and was only ninth.
The session was interrupted by a late red flag for a nasty crash for Alex Marquez.
His Gresini Ducati's front wheel locked as it hit the ground from a small wheelie out of the first corner, firing him into a crash that sent him sliding down the straight while his bike cartwheeled down the grass.
Marquez was able to rejoin on his spare bike after the restart and earned a Q2 place in eighth, just behind an unusually strong late-2026 performance from outgoing KTM rider Brad Binder.
Yamaha will be represented in Q2 thanks to Fabio Quartararo taking 10th place.
But Honda missed out despite LCR's Johann Zarco spending much of the afternoon in the top 10.
Zarco had an early crash at Turn 4 in which team-mate Diogo Moreira also went through the gravel while he was walking away. The stewards quickly determined that Moreira had had no time to react so had not breached yellow flag rules.
The LCR pair were edged down to 12th and 13th at the end, just behind works Honda rider Luca Marini.
