Marquez denies Acosta pole as Aprilias struggle
Marc Marquez overcame Pedro Acosta in MotoGP's Hungarian Grand Prix pole battle as Aprilia was overshadowed.
Despite starting Q2 by crashing his Ducati at Turn 1, Marquez ended it with two laps good enough for pole - which he secured by 0.053 seconds over Pedro Acosta's KTM.
Acosta was the only non-Ducati interloper in the top five.
Gresini's Fermin Aldeguer produced his best qualifying of 2026 so far to take the final front row spot ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio, who'd crashed in unison with Marquez at the start of the session, and Q1 pacesetter Pecco Bagnaia on the second works Ducati.
Aprilia had to settle for sixth through eighth with Marco Bezzecchi, Raul Fernandez and Jorge Martin, followed by Fernandez's Trackhouse team-mate Ai Ogura in 10th between the Hondas of Q1 graduate Luca Marini and Diogo Moreira.
Having got a Yamaha into Q2 on Friday, Pramac's Jack Miller couldn't do better than 12th in the pole shootout.
Gresini's Alex Marquez stand-in Iker Lecuona starts a very respectable 16th for his first MotoGP appearance in two and a half years, ahead of Q1 crasher Brad Binder.
