Mir out of Austrian GP due to bloodwork anomalies

Honda MotoGP rider Joan Mir has withdrawn from the Austrian Grand Prix on medical advice, despite a lack of "clear diagnosis".

Mir suffered symptoms of fatigue and a lack of strength during the Misano weekend, ultimately making an early exit from the grand prix.

Honda has now revealed medical checks in Barcelona following his return from Misano "have revealed altered parameters in the bloodwork, which require further investigation and testing".

But no diagnosis has been made, and Mir, who will switch to the Gresini Ducati team on a two-year deal starting in 2027, has not travelled to Austria - skipping the race "to rest and for more tests and studies to be done".

Though the entry could have been left vacant had Honda desired, given the short turnaround between Misano and Red Bull Ring means there is no regulatory requirement to substitute, Mir will be replaced by test rider Takaaki Nakagami.

This will be Nakagami's first MotoGP round this season. He has been busy with development work on the 850cc prototype - having tested at Mugello in the lead-up to the Austrian GP.

He will also run in the collective Pirelli/850cc test on Monday after the race, and then race the current 1000cc bike as a wildcard at Motegi, his home round, in early October.

Mir, Honda says, is "targeting a return to health" for Motegi.
