What time is the Bahrain Grand Prix? Qualifying and race start times

1 min read

The 2024 Formula 1 season kicks off with an unusual Saturday race at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Qualifying takes place at 7pm local time (4pm UK) on Friday March 1.

The 57-lap race begins at 6pm local time (3pm UK) on Saturday March 2.

Sakhir is three hours ahead of GMT.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Bahrain has hosted the season opener, but the first time the race has been on a Saturday.

This is due to the holy period of Ramadan, which begins on March 10.

Holding the Bahrain race on Saturday gives enough time for the F1 paddock to pack up and move onto Jeddah, where that race will also take place on a Saturday so the Saudi Arabian GP is complete before Ramadan begins.

Max Verstappen opened his dominant run to the 2023 championship with a win at last season's Bahrain GP - but it was the first time his Red Bull team had triumphed in the race since Sebastian Vettel's 2013 win there.
