A 1m47.402s from Martin was enough to lift him to the top just moments after Quartararo had taken first, at a track where the reigning champion has had little success in his premier-class career. Martin’s team-mate Johann Zarco was a close third behind Quartararo, while Enea Bastianini (Gresini Ducati) and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) made it four Desmosedicis in the top five. ![1004708](https://storage.googleapis.com/the-race-com.appspot.com/1/2022/09/1004708.jpg) Marc Marquez ran the new Kalex-produced swingarm on his Honda bike extensively through the session, and used it on his fastest lap – which elevated him to eighth, and could’ve been even better had he not had a major moment through the final corner. Yet Marquez’s efforts were only good enough for Honda to end FP2 as the fifth-fastest manufacturer, with not only Ducati and Yamaha but Suzuki and Aprilia ahead, courtesy of sixth-placed Alex Rins and seventh-placed Maverick Vinales respectively. Vinales spent a big chunk of the session leading, before the late improvements shuffled him down. ![1004667](https://storage.googleapis.com/the-race-com.appspot.com/1/2022/09/1004667.jpg) His title-contending Aprilia team-mate Aleix Espargaro crashed again in the early minutes of the session, this time at the downhill Turn 14 right-hander, and was unable to get himself into the top 10 despite having topped FP2.
