This week’s episode of The Race MotoGP Podcast takes an in-depth look at the engine problems that could derail Yamaha’s championship bid.

Fabio Quartararo made a dominant start to the delayed 2020 season with back-to-back wins at Jerez, but since then Yamaha has struggled, with its other three riders all suffering engine reliability troubles.

Yamaha has already had to take some of its engine allocation out of circulation as a precaution (see image below detailing Maverick Vinales’ engine use so far in 2020), and failed in a bid to be allowed to open up the sealed engines to investigate the problem further.

As the Japanese manufacturer tries to gradually reintroduce some of the engines it has concerns about, while working frantically back at its factories to replicate the conditions that caused the problems in the first place, MotoGP technology expert Neil Spalding joins Toby Moody to explain what has been going on, and how Yamaha found itself in this situation.

This special topical episode has delayed the release of our podcast where we answer your questions on MotoGP. That episode has also been recorded, and will now be available to listen to on Tuesday September 8.
