Trackhouse MotoGP rider Ai Ogura will miss a second successive round of the championship through injury, withdrawing from the San Marino Grand Prix at Misano.

The news likely marks the end of Ogura's title bid. Third in the standings and 37 points off coming out of Silverstone one month ago, he dropped to fifth in skipping Aragon and is likely to fall further down the championship order before his return.

Ogura had sustained a left thumb fracture while riding motocross in Japan and was ruled out of Aragon, having undergone surgery - which he'd originally hoped to avoid - upon returning to Europe.

He was pushing to be fit for Misano but, as per Trackhouse, "the latest medical advice following an assessment in Barcelona late Tuesday is that he is not, yet, sufficiently healed to ride".

Trackhouse would in theory be required by regulations to replace Ogura but says it has "no option" but to run only Raul Fernandez this weekend.

It says Aprilia tester Lorenzo Savadori had stepped in for Ogura "at extremely short notice" at Aragon, and is not available this time. Past precedent suggests the team will not be sanctioned for not substituting Ogura - who now targets a return at the Austrian Grand Prix the following weekend.

The 25-year-old will leave Trackhouse for the Yamaha factory team at the end of the season, replaced by Enea Bastianini.
