# Four Spanish rounds as MotoGP unveils biggest-ever 2024 calendar

The provisional 2024 MotoGP calendar has been released, with little in the way of surprises on the 22-round schedule that doesn’t differ too much from the draft 2023 one issued last year. 

The only real change is the return of the Aragon Grand Prix, with the Spanish round making a return to its usual early-September after a one-year absence.

Series organiser Dorna had originally announced a plan for the Iberian peninsula’s five races to rotate through the calendar and not all appear in a single season, but that won't been the case - with trips to Jerez, Barcelona, Valencia and another in Portugal all back on the schedule next year.

The season will once again start at the Qatar Grand Prix on the 10th March, with the Lusail International Circuit returning to the usual season-opening slot that it had conceded to Portimao in 2023 as the Qatari circuit underwent an extensive reconstruction, the results of which MotoGP will get to sample next month when the series heads there for the penultimate race.

Portugal will remain early in the season as the second race before the championship heads to America with Argentine and US races, ahead of a European return that concludes at Mugello in early June.

The Kazakh Grand Prix, originally scheduled for July this year but failing to go ahead, returns to the calendar again in 2024 before a Northern European double header in Assen and the Sachsenring leads into the summer break.

Racing returns a month later at Silverstone with three more European races again leading into a relatively more relaxed overseas end to the season, with India taking the same date as this year (despite pressure to move it later into the cooler season), with Indonesia a week later.

There’s a one-week break before the Japanese Grand Prix, then another week off ahead of Phillip Island, and trips to Thailand and Malaysia before the season concluded in Valencia on November 17th.

As announced earlier this month, Hungary’s new Balaton Park track has also been added as a reserve track, with the Kazakh race once again the one with the most doubts surrounding it - given the relative lack of information about the Sokol circuit.
