Marc Marquez led MotoGP title rival Marco Bezzecchi in the opening practice session of the San Marino Grand Prix premier-class weekend at Misano.

With practice held on a 'greener' Misano than usual in terms of grip, due to weather in the lead-up to the weekend, laptimes tumbled gradually through the session even as riders stuck with the same rubber.

Marquez ultimately sniped the top spot from Bezzecchi by 0.060s at the chequered flag, courtesy of a particularly strong final sector.

Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse Aprilia), Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) and Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) completed a top five covered by two tenths.

Pedro Acosta (KTM) was right behind them in sixth despite an early crash at Turn 1.

Jack Miller (Pramac Yamaha) was the only other rider to crash, falling on his outlap at Turn 4 just 30 seconds after the start of the session - in a shunt so sudden it basically looked like a wet-weather crash.
