He was 10th in the actual session. Until then, last year's Spanish GP winner Alex Marquez led the way as he tried the latest Ducati aero on his Gresini bike for the first time. His time held up for third ahead of championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, who was the only Aprilia to infiltrate a Ducati-heavy top six in the main part of the session as he got between Alex and Marc Marquez. That trio's first through third places became third through fifth when the VR46 fresh-tyre times came in. Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez got a second Aprilia in the top six with a fresh-tyre lap at the end. Jack Miller also used fresh tyres - and gathered himself back up after nearly running into Martin - as he put his Pramac Yamaha seventh. Pecco Bagnaia had been in the top six for the majority of the session on the second works Ducati, but fell to 11th as others ran new tyres.
