# Infamous karter Corberi gets 15-year FIA ban

Italian karter Luca Corberi – who threw his kart’s bumper at a racing competitor and attacked a fellow driver – has been banned from FIA-governed competition for 15 years.

The incidents, which took place on October 4 2020 at Lonato – a track Corberi’s family owns – were captured on video and shared virally on the internet.

Corberi – who won the 2012 CIK-FIA World Cup in the KF3 category ahead of George Russell and Lance Stroll – vowed to never race again after the incidents while FIA karting president Felipe Massa called the behaviour “unacceptable”.

Many current and ex-Formula 1 drivers and personnel commented on the incident at the time, with the likes of Jenson Button calling for 23-year-old Corberi to get a lifetime ban, the penalty that the FIA asked the International Tribunal to award.

However after assessing the three incidents – throwing the fairing, crossing the track disobeying officials’ requests and attacking another driver – the panel have decided Corberi’s actions warranted a 15-year ban from all motorsports governed directly or indirectly by the FIA.
