# Toronto IndyCar race loses July date as city extends events ban

The Toronto IndyCar street race will not go ahead on its planned July date, and is looking to move to a later date.

The Honda Indy Toronto had been scheduled for July 10-12 on the original 2020 calendar, and was unmoved despite the coronavirus outbreak forcing IndyCar to issue a revised calendar.

However, on Friday the city of Toronto announced that it was extending its ban on events with more than 250 people until September 1.

In a statement issues by the event on Friday, it said: “The Honda Indy Toronto will not be held on the originally scheduled date of July 10-12, 2020 at Exhibition Place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In anticipation of the municipal guidelines announced today for holding events, preparations and discussions have been ongoing with the City of Toronto, Exhibition Place, Honda Canada and IndyCar to explore alternate date options for 2020.”

IndyCar revealed earlier this week that the St Petersburg Grand Prix – the event which was supposed to begin the IndyCar race year before the COVID-19 virus struck – [would conclude the season.](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/st-pete-rejoins-indycar-calendar-as-new-finale/) The season will [get underway on June 16 behind closed doors at Texas.](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/indycar-to-start-behind-closed-doors-at-texas-in-june/)

IndyCar is yet to publicly comment on the Toronto news and confirm whether the race will be rescheduled or not.
