Agustin Canapino has split from the Juncos Hollinger team and will not see out the 2024 IndyCar season.

The multiple Argentinian tin-top champion switched to IndyCar last year and scored an impressive 12th on his debut, showing the IndyCar paddock his talent was translatable despite not having raced single-seaters before.

He finished the year 21st overall and stayed on for what has been a rollercoaster 2024 season.

He is currently 22nd in the standings with a best finish of 12th, at Detroit, where his season really hit trouble when [Theo Pourchaire received death threats](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/indycar-abuse-turned-toxic-must-be-stopped/) from Argentinian fans following an on-track incident with Canapino, who in the aftermath released a statement that was widely criticised.

That was not the first time a driver had received death threats from Argentinian fans as two similar incidents with Canapino's then team-mate Callum Ilott in 2023 [prompted similar messages](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/team-mate-drama-death-threats-ilotts-long-beach-explained/).

Canapino [stood down](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/agustin-canapino-out-of-road-america-indycar-race-pourchaire-abuse-saga/) for the next race at Road America, where he was replaced by Nolan Siegel, before the team [reaffirmed its commitment to Canapino](https://www.the-race.com/indycar/indycar-agustin-canapino-change-of-tone-must-be-backed-up/).

Canapino scored a career-best road and street course qualifying at Toronto last time out, but he crashed out of that strong qualifying position in the race - adding to a run of poor results at a critical time in the pursuit of Leaders' Circle prize money.

Now Canapino and Juncos have “mutually and amicably” parted ways.

Canapino mysteriously did not take part in a test at Gateway last week, where Conor Daly took over the #78 car.

Four of the final five races of the season are on ovals so Daly would be a strong choice to step in.

At the moment, Canapino's #78 car is not in the top 22 in the entrant points standings for teams eligible for the Leaders' Circle, which awards a crucial $1million to teams.

Canapino's strong run at Laguna Seca last year helped that car sneak into the Leaders' Circle top 22 but it faces strong competition to secure a spot again in 2024.
