Formula 1’s safety measures rightly drew huge praise after Romain Grosjean escaped from his horrific Bahrain Grand Prix crash without serious injuries.

But [as the FIA’s formal investigation into the accident begins,](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/grosjean-crash-investigation/) there are also plenty of questions to be answered.

Leading F1 figures have already raised queries about the manner in which the Haas broke in two and exactly what caused the fireball that engulfed it.

The manner in which the barrier split has also caused significant unease among drivers, and amid the absolutely deserved praise for the heroism of those at the scene, there are legitimate questions over fire marshal coverage too.
