A [radical suggestion from Lewis Hamilton](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/hamilton-f1-should-stop-teams-working-on-next-years-car-early/) to limit when Formula 1 teams can start work on their cars for the following year is based on a simple principle: that of no one team being able to dominate.

It’s an intriguing idea, and one that’s perhaps understandable given how many people have been on the wrong side of Red Bull domination at the start of the ground effect era in 2022 and 2023 so far.

But it’s also one that more practically is hard to police – and, given the vast changes Mercedes needs for next year to fix some of the problems that Hamilton has highlighted, might not even be beneficial to him or his team.
