Max Verstappen jokingly but fairly firmly told us his opening-lap incidents with Red Bull Formula 1 team-mate Sergio Perez at the Austrian Grand Prix sprint needn’t be a story.

We [weren’t so sure](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/red-bull-duo-refused-to-let-their-first-2023-flashpoint-ignite/) – partly because on this occasion the bigger story actually became how efficiently they ensured it didn’t become a real flashpoint.
