Despite its Hungarian Grand Prix pole position with Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes was under little illusion that it would be able to take the fight to Max Verstappen and Red Bull come race day.

But even so, the margin the RB19 had over its Formula 1 rivals in race trim was enormous – so much so that Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff lumped his team and the rest of the chasing pack in the “F2 gang” by comparison.
