The second Formula 1 practice session at the Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place two hours later than planned and will be extended to 90 minutes.

First practice on the brand-new Las Vegas Strip circuit [went embarrassingly wrong ](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/las-vegas-f1-practice-abandoned/)just eight minutes into the session when both Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz sustained damage to their cars as a result of the track surface.

The FIA confirmed after FP1 that "a concrete frame around a manhole cover that has failed" was the cause.

This led to the cancellation of the rest of FP1 and doubts over whether second practice - scheduled for midnight local time - would even take place.

Shortly after the original scheduled start time of FP2, the FIA issued a further update.

"We are currently expecting around two hours of delay from the originally scheduled start time for FP2 in order for the local circuit engineering team to carry out the necessary works on the track," it said.

"The session will be extended to 90 minutes. Will update with more specifics when they’re available."

This means FP2 is scheduled to kick off at 2am local time. F1 has a two-hour window from that period before the reopening process starts at 4am with the roads reopened by 6am.

The new local start time is 0215hrs local (1015hrs UK time). 

The FIA has issued an update: “Updated estimate for start time is 02:15 due to work that remains ongoing by local circuit engineers. Final start time TBC.”
