Daniel Ricciardo will undergo checks in hospital after his accident in the second Formula 1 practice session for the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.

Ricciardo, in only his third weekend back in F1 with AlphaTauri, was wrong-footed by Oscar Piastri losing control of his McLaren at Zandvoort’s banked Turn 3 left-hander.

Piastri nosed his McLaren into the barriers and left his MCL-60 covering the high racing line on the banked corner, a route Ricciardo was attempting to take a few moments later.

Ricciardo admitted he “didn’t’ see” Piastri’s car before it was too late, as his AlphaTauri then speared into the same barrier, ending up a few meters from Piastri’s McLaren.

“I was too late,” Ricciardo conceded.

He later added “f\*\*\* my hand” after apologising to his team over the radio for the shunt, though he was able to extract himself from his car.

He visited the circuit’s medical centre after the crash and Ricciardo will undergo further checks at a local hospital.

Red Bull’s reserve driver Liam Lawson is on site at Zandvoort this weekend, fresh from racing in Super Formula at Motegi last weekend.
