Ferrari’s [bold 2022 engine plans](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/key-details-of-ferraris-ambitious-2022-f1-engine-revealed/) and its hopes of returning to the top of Formula 1 for the new chassis rules next year are tackled in the latest episode of The Race F1 Podcast.

Gary Anderson and Mark Hughes join Edd Straw to discuss Ferrari’s progress this year and whether the decision not to go with a split turbo design next year could hold it back.

There’s also a look at the changes at Williams, with team principal Simon Roberts [on his way out](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/williams-f1-team-boss-roberts-leaving-wont-be-replaced/) as part of an internal restructure designed to make the race team and the various design departments work more closely together.

The battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes front tyre warm-up struggles are also delved into, with a look ahead to this weekend’s French Grand Prix.

And with the Alpine team heading to its home race, we attempt to make some sense of its erratic performances so far this season.
