Fernando Alonso’s [newly-announced Formula 1 comeback](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/fernando-alonso-back-to-f1-with-renault-for-2021/) with Renault in 2021 is the focus of our special ‘extra’ edition of The Race F1 Podcast.

The two-part podcast starts off with Mark Hughes and Edd Straw discussing why Alonso has signed for Renault and whether a driver who will turn 40 during next season can still cut it at the top level.

Alonso’s qualities as a driver and why those who dismiss him as a pantomime villain are also discussed as the strengths he will bring to Renault are delved into.

Scott Mitchell appears on the second part of the podcast fresh from attending a press conference with Alonso and Renault team principal Cyril Abiteboul to explain what the driver and team are saying about the move.

This includes Alonso’s plans for re-acclimatising to F1, the chances of him participating in F1 and his own thoughts on age.
