# Monaco GP F1 2025 grid after penalties for Hamilton + two others

McLaren driver Lando Norris defeated Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and championship-leading team-mate Oscar Piastri in battle for pole position for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix.

The two Mercedes drivers were effectively non-participants in Q2 despite making it through. Kimi Antonelli was ruled out by a Q1 crash, and team-mate George Russell - by a red flag-causing power loss on his first Q2 push lap.

And the grid has been shaken up by penalties.

Aston Martin's 19th-place qualifier [Lance Stroll received two penalties](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/lance-stroll-second-f1-grid-penalty-2025-monaco-gp/) and will share the back row with Ollie Bearman - who qualified 17th but is being [sent back 10 places](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/ollie-bearman-monaco-gp-red-flag-friday-practice-penalty/) for overtaking under a red flag - while [Lewis Hamilton was handed three-place drop](https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/hamilton-three-place-f1-grid-penalty-monaco-gp-2025-verstappen-block/) for impeding Max Verstappen in Q1.

Hamilton had qualified fourth but will now start seventh with Verstappen, Isack Hadjar and Fernando Alonso all promoted one place in the order.
