# What caused Vegas GP crash that sent Norris to hospital

Lando Norris has been released from hospital after undergoing precautionary medical checks following a massive crash early in Formula 1's inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix.

His McLaren snapped into a high-speed spin and went into the wall before sliding down an escape road in the opening laps.

He got out of the car unaided, having reported on the team radio that he was OK.

But after an initial assessment at the circuit medical centre, he was taken to University Medical Center for what were described as further precautionary investigations.

Team principal Andrea Stella said Norris was swiftly discharged.

"Lando has been discharged, all checks are negative," said Stella.

He said initial indications were that the crash was a driver error.

"There's a bump in that place and you can see all the cars spark when they go through this bump," Stella explained.

"I think the combination of the bump and the cold tyres might have surprised him.

"Otherwise we don't see any issue, let's say with the car or of a different nature."

Both McLarens had gone out in Q1 yesterday in the team's worst qualifying performance of the season.

But Norris's team-mate Oscar Piastri showed great race pace as he ran as high as third in the grand prix before a late pitstop to ensure he did the mandatory medium-tyre stint left him 10th.
